Recently several Microsoft employees wrote a MSDN blog to give us their views on the next Windows, currently known as the Windows 8. The information was then quickly taken over by Microsoft. Microsoft hasn't even confirmed that the name of its next Windows iteration will be "Windows 8." Internally, Microsoft refers to it as Windows. Next, but many Microsoft employees on LinkedIn refer to the new OS as Windows 8.
According to them, the next version of OS will be "completely different from what people usually expect from Windows." Furthermore, it should respond to the needs and desires of customers. Finally, Windows 8 will be "the future of the PC." You just hope that Windows 8 will not be like Windows Vista that also needed to be radically different in the future but it is likely that Microsoft has learned from its mistakes.
Microsoft discontinued naming its operating systems after version numbers following Windows 3.1. But officially, Windows 95 was version 4, Windows 98 was version 4.1, Windows 2000 was version 5, Windows XP was version 5.1, Windows Vista was version 6, and Windows 7 was version 6.1.
